‘Tis the Season to Be
Jolly Stressed, Busy, Craaaazy.
The Most Wonderful Time of the Year.
I thought this would be the perfect time of year to talk about the spirit/spirituality component of total wellness. This season is that special time when we start shaping our lives around the holidays (“Oh, let’s get together after Thanksgiving, but before Christmas…”). We put off healthy eating, assuming we’re just going blow it at work parties and family gatherings. We wait to start a new fitness program until “after the New Year”. Drive ourselves nuts buying the perfect gifts.
Or my favorite: start posting about how sh*tty this year was and you can’t wait for it to end. How NEXT year is gonna be YOUR year. Not with that attitude. But yeah, okay.
Hey, maybe you’re the opposite. You may have gotten ahead of the game already. If you know how to stay 100% grounded at all times over these final weeks of 2017, please drop a comment below. We ALL want to know your tips for staying cool as a cucumber.
Tapping into your spirit is completely personal. I say do whatever works. For example, if you come from a church background and that is no longer part of your practice then find something that complements or builds on that foundation. If the community component is what you’ve lost a connection to, perhaps a non-denominational spiritual center would be an option.
For some, taking time out to practice yoga and meditation is what resonates deeply. Yoga provides movement, stillness of the mind, breathing (connection to the source!) and community. The best studios cultivate social engagement and empower their members with unique opportunities to grow in mind, body and spirit.
Find your power within. Consider that you have or can get access to all the tools you need to coast through this holiday season. Through any challenging or fast-paced times.
Spirituality is another form of self-care. Also a form of MENTAL HEALTH.
